1st Session -  Tales from the Trenches: Our Thorniest Legal Management Experiences

Session Description:  Join this compelling session to explore the trials, tribulations and downright terror of our thorniest management experiences. You’ll uncover what others have learned the hard way, so you don’t have to, along with examples of what to do and not to do. This fun, highly interactive session will be conducted in a “fishbowl” style. Newer administrators will be able to bolster their experience and seasoned administrators will be encouraged to share their own scary stories.

 Session Objectives:  

  • Recognize the types of unusual events that may arise in law firms.
  • Define effective strategies to manage problematic situations.
  • Identify the drivers of ineffective responses.
  • Apply recognized best practices to future complex problems. 

 

Eden’s Bio:  Eden Sara Minucci, CLM, SHRM-CP, has worked in the legal industry for more than 20 years serving small, medium, and large law firms. Minucci also holds a Master of Science in Management. She writes and speaks about law firm management and helps law firms drive and maximize productivity through improved operations and efficiency. She is the Immediate Past President of the Austin Chapter

Maria's Bio: Maria S. Mason, CLM, is the Business Director for Greenberg Traurig’s Austin, Texas office. She has a bachelor’s in accounting from The Catholic University of America and earned her CLM in 2012. Mason has been a member of four ALA chapters — Downeast, Cyber, Hawaii and Austin — and has worked for law firms from 35 attorneys to 2,500 attorneys, giving her a unique perspective on legal management. She has served in many leadership roles for the Association at both the national and chapter level.

2nd Session - Breaking Down AI Areas of Use in Legal

Session Description:

Many are still struggling to wrap their heads around how generative AI can be most beneficial to legal teams. Meanwhile, there are new "Legal AI" product announcements daily, so it can be hard to get through the noise and determine where to invest your efforts and budget.

 

In this session, we’ll share a framework for looking at the functional areas where generative AI can be a useful tool, how that relates to the solutions on the market and their capabilities, the impact they can have in different areas of your business, and considerations around how to choose where to focus your time and efforts.

 

Michelle Spencer's Bio:

For over three decades, Michelle has worked in legal - first as a paralegal and then IT management and technology training before becoming a consultant. As a former volunteer and officer of the International Legal Technology Association, Michelle is well-known in the legal community and is a frequent speaker and writer on professional development and technology topics. At NetDocuments, she continues to assist legal teams in leveraging technology to solve their pain points and improve their workflows.

Zackary Gibbons' Bio:

Zackary Gibbons is serving as the Southwest Regional Manager for Specialized Law at LexisNexis, brings over a decade of expertise in online legal research and analytics. Throughout his career, Zack has collaborated with law schools and firms nationwide, harnessing his deep understanding of the legal landscape to deliver tailored solutions. As a member of Lexis’s internal Product Advisory Board, he provides customer and market insight guiding product strategy, content prioritization, and platform development. Zack holds a Juris Doctor from Vanderbilt University Law School and is an avid advocate for the responsible and ethical use of AI technology in the legal profession.

Greg Miller's Bio:

Greg helps Law Firms and Attorneys with custom content packages that will save the firm money, time, and help create a more efficient work environment. His products help Attorneys win more cases and create higher settlements.

Important Reminders About Parking:

Option 1:  Park in the Chase Tower Building Garage at 221 W. 6th Street.  Be sure to either stamp your parking ticket or pick up a discount ticket at the meeting to receive the $5.00 discounted parking rate when you exit the garage.

Option 2:  If the Garage is full, the Headliners Club offers a discounted parking rate of $5 at the parking lot at 600 Guadalupe Street (Lot P3010 which is connected to the Extended Stay America Hotel).
